Urmila was born on February 4th 1974 in Mumbai in a Maharashtrian family. As a baby, Urmila was highly inclined to acting which helped her get her first break at six in Shyam Benegal’s ‘Kalyug’, however; it was Shekhar Kapoor’s ‘Masoom’ that got her recognition. After doing a couple movies as a child artist Urmila took a break from acting. In 1991, Urmila made her debut as the lead actress in N Chandra’s ‘Narsimha’, but the actress failed to impress the audiences. Urmila got lucky when Ram Gopal Verma became her mentor and designer Manish Malhotra gave her a complete makeover for ‘Rangeela’. Urmila not only looked sizzling but also gave an awesome performance in this Ram Gopal Verma flick. After the movie, Urmila was indisputably labeled the hottest sex siren in Bollywood.
Urmila and Ram Gopal Verma alliance resulted in some of the best Bollywood movies-‘Satya’, ‘Kaun’, ‘Bhoot’, ‘Daud’ and ‘Pyar Tune Kya Kiya’. Urmila has had maximum hits of her career with Ram Gopal Verma, but she has also done other great movies like ‘Judai’, ‘Kunwara’, ‘Pinjar’, ‘Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara’ and ‘Banaras’. Urmila also; danced on an item number ‘Chamma Chamma’ that is rated as one of the most famous Bollywood songs internationally as it featured in ‘Moulin Rouge’ and ‘Bombay Dreams’. Urmila has reinvented her sexy actress image to that of an actress with substance with movies like ‘Pinjar’ and ‘Banaras’.
