Uday was born on January 5th, 1973 to the legendary Bollywood director and producer, Yash Chopra and mother Pamela Chopra. As a child, Uday was exposed to the limelight of Bollywood, which he always found intriguing. Uday started his career as an assistant director helping dad Yash Chopra on various project.s Uday also assisted brother Aditya Chopra during the direction of ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’.
Uday, made his debut as an actor under the Yash Raj films banner with ‘Mohabbatein’ where he was directed by his brother Aditya. This multi-starrer film, which saw Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai in the lead. The movie did well at the box-office and set the perfect launch pad for four debutantes- Shamita Shetty, Jimmy Shergill, Preeti Jhangiani, Kim Sharma.
In 2004, Uday bagged another role in his dad’s home production venture ‘Dhoom’, which was declared as superhit. Uday was launched in the lead under Yashraj banner in ‘Neal and Nikki’ opposite actress Tanisha, younger sister of Kajol. The movie bombed at the box-office, but the movie did bring Uday and Tanisha closer, who were rumored to be romantically involved.
Uday Chopra has not been able to bag a single project outside the Yashraj banner, and his father and brother’s support has failed to get him ahead in Bollywood as an actor. Uday plans to venture into direction with the help of his dad. Uday, jointly with his brother Aditya, helps to run Yashraj Productions, and plays a major role in the Information Technology and digital rights management of the company.
