Rani Mukherjee

Rani was born in the famous Mukherjee clan on a star date March 21 1978 to director Ram Mukherjee and his wife -a playback singer Krishna. Rani also has an older brother Raja; famous actress Kajol is her second cousin.

Rani began her career with a low budget movie Ashok Gaikwads Raja Ki Ayegi Baraat. The movie did average and Rani\rquote s performance was appreciated and caught the eye of Mahesh Bhatt, who casted her opposite Aamir Khan in Ghulam. Ghulam made Rani a star and next she was signed by Karan Johar for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai a movie that made her a superstar.

Rani also won the best Supporting Actress Award for her role in this Karan Johar flick. Rani did sign many movies with comedy superstar Govinda and also had an affair with him despite him being married which led to a downfall in her career. Rani worked in many B grade movies with Govinda and was criticized for her looks. Rani broke off with the actor in 2000 and started focusing on her career

Aditya Chopra became Ranis mentor and signed her for Mujse Dosti Karoge opposite the superstar Hrithik Roshan. He also casted her in  Saathiya opposite Vivek Oberio. These two movies completely changed Ranis image and she transformed overnight to a beautiful and elegant actress.

Shahrukh Khan also swapped Rani for Aishwarya Rai in his home production Chalte Chalte and that helped the actress prove her talent outside the Yash Chopra camp. Mani Ratnam also signed the actress for  Yuva and paired her opposite Abhishek Bachchan. Ranis career was revived by Yash Chopra and the production house signed her two more movies Hum Tum and Bunty Aur Babli.

The movies became superhits and Rani became the number one actress in Bollywood. Sanjay Leela Bhansalis Black came into Ranis kitty after Kajol rejected the role and the movie consolidated her position as one of the most talented actress. Karan Johar casted Rani again and this time it was as the leading actress in his movie Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna - a role refused by Kajol. Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna led to many controversies and Rani was also criticized for her character. Rani Mukherjees romantic relation with married Aditya Chopra led to the directors divorce.

Rani continues to rule Bollywood and has top directors like Yash Chopra, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Karan Johar on her side.
