Raima Sen was born on the Star date on November 11th 1979 and is the older daughter of the beautiful actress Moon Moon Sen and Bharat Dev Varma, who belonged to the royal family of Tripura state. Raima’s grandmother is the famous actresses of the 70’s Suchitra Sen. Raima came to Mumbai to Calcutta to pursue a career in acting when she was just eighteen.
At a young age, Raima started opting for serious cinema and her first movie was ‘Godmother’ in which she got a chance to act with the talented Shabana Azmi. Seeing her performance in the movie, Kalpana Lazmi signed her for ‘Daman’ in which she played Raveena Tandon’s daughter; this newcomer managed to impress many and was regarded as a natural actress.
In 2003, Rituparno Ghosh signed Raima for ‘Choker Bali’ and her performance in the movie won her accolades. Despite being talented and beautiful, Raima has not managed to get main leads and she has seen settling for small character roles. Raima has always shared a great rapport with Producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra, who casted Raima in ‘Parineeta’ and ‘Eklavya’.
Raima’s youthful charm has made her the New ‘Lakme’ girl, a brand ambassadress for the leading cosmetic company in India. Raima will be seen playing a Bengali wife to Kay Kay in Farhan Akhtar’s ‘Honeymoon Travels’. Raima has also declared that she will stop doing cameos and character roles as she wants to break the stereotype in Bollywood.
Raima has also acted with her sister Riya in a movie called ‘Bong Connection’ which is about lives of Bengalis in America and Calcutta. We hope this young actress gets her dues in Bollywood in due time.
