Nana Patekar, one of the most talented actors in the Indian film Industry was born on January 1st 1951 in Maharashtra as Vishwanath Patekar. Nana started with theatre and was compelled to act in films by the late Smita Patil, who was thoroughly impressed by the actor’s intense performance.
Nana acted in movies such as ‘Mohre’ in 1987 and ‘Salaam Bombay’ in 1988 but, went unnoticed. In 1989, the actor was finally able to make an impact in mainstream Bollywood with ‘Parinda’ in which he impressed the audiences with his villainous ‘Anna’ character. He was awarded the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award for the role. He also won the Filmfare Best Villain Award in 1992 for ‘Angaar’.
Nana Patekar is said to have a unique acting style. It is widely rumored that he ad-libs all of his lines, and is for sure held in high regard for this creative ability.
Nana is quite a Bollywood versatile actor; with playing the occasional, the actor has also played a hero in most films. He played a truant, gambling son in ‘Krantiveer’ in 1994 for which he won the National Film Award as well as the Filmfare and Star Screen Awards in the best actor category. The actor played a wife beater in ‘Agnisakshi’, a deaf and dumb father in ‘Khamoshi: The Musical’ in 1996 and in 1998, Nana was impressed us with his schizophrenic character in ‘Wajood’. The actor is also well known for his role in the movie ‘Ab Tak Chappan’ in which he played a police officer.
Nana also turned director with his movie ‘Prahaar:The Final Attack’ co-starring Madhuri Dixit. His other films as an actor include ‘Hu Tu Tu’ and ‘Bluff Master’. He once again delivered a great performance in a negative role in ‘Apaharan’ for which he received the Filmfare as well as the Star Screen award as the Best Villain.
The actor is always exploring his inner talents and the actor impressed us with playback singing in the films ‘Yeshwant’, ‘Wajood’ and ‘Aanch’.
The actor is known to for his generously to the poor and established himself as one of the most admired actors in the Bollywood fraternity.
