Dream Girl Hema Malini was born on October 16th 1948 in Tamil Nadu in a Brahmin Iyengar family. Hema, who always dreamt of being an actress, started pursuing her career at the young age of sixteen. After working in South movies she was launched opposite Raj Kapoor in ‘Sapno Ka Saudagar’. Hema’s beauty left the audiences completely enthralled and even though her debut movie failed she was declared as a star. Hema Malini was flooded with offers and her ‘Johnny Mera Naam’ opposite Dev Anand became a blockbuster. Hema Malini star power at the box-office was evident from the fact that ‘Seeta Aur Geeta’ became a huge hit and the movie had her in the lead as actors Dharamendra and Sanjeev Kumar had small roles. Hema Malini fell in love with Dharamendra. The two made an odd pair as he was hardcore Punjabi and she was stringent South Indian.
Hema Malini’s ‘Basanti’ role in ‘Sholay’ is one of her most memorable roles. Her on screen chemistry with Dharamendra was appreciated and the two became a famous pair. In 1977, the two also acted in the movie titled ‘Dream Girl’, which had the title dream girl bestowed on the evergreen actress. In 1980, despite being engaged to Jeetendra; she went ahead and married Dharamendra. Hema also became the mother of Esha and Ahana Deol.
Hema Malini continued acting in movies and even ventured into direction with ‘Dil Ashana Hai’ that launched the career of Shahrukh Khan in Bollywood. Hema Malini has also passed down her ‘Odisi’ dance heritage to her daughters Esha and Ahana, who have been performing on her side at various concerts.
Hema Malini has also pursued a political career with BJP and is a member of Rajya Sabha. Hema Malini has continued to look gorgeous and her look in ‘Baghbaan’, ‘Veer-Zaara’ and ‘Baabul’ has won her a lot of compliments.
