Boman Irani is one of the big names in Bollywood, but the actor’s career started with an amusing story; Boman was a professional photographer and was happily married with two kids. During his photo shoot with Shiamak Davar he tried to put some funny acts to relax the choreographer and Shiamak was so amused seeing Boman’s talent that he persuaded him to do theatre. Boman was hesitant, but Shiamak, who has an eye for talent, didn’t give up until Boman auditioned with theatre director Alque Padamsee who offered him a cameo in his play ‘Roshni’. Boman was so impressive in his debut performance that he was flooded with offers; Raell Padamsee’s ‘Family Ties’ and Rahul da Cunha’s ‘I’m not Bajirao’ that made him a star.
Boman was shocked when he was offered to play Mahatma Gandhi in theater director Feroze Khan’s ‘Mahatma v/s Gandhi’ for which the ‘never say diet’ actor had to shed 40 pounds in a span of two months. Boman’s first performance was in South Africa and he won critical acclaim for his performance-the play was such a huge success that it went to be described as one of the finest Indian plays of all time.
Boman‘s success in theatre also got him some big TV commercials like the ‘Krack-Jack’, ‘Fanta’, ‘Bata’ and ‘Tata fone’ to name a few. Boman made his Bollywood debut in Mansoor Khan’s ‘Josh’, but went completely unnoticed. Boman Irani was offered his second movie by Ram Gopal Verma called ‘Darna Mana Hai’, a horror medley in which he managed to impress, but it was his role in ‘Munnabhai MBBS’ that did justice to his histrionics. His character of Lucky Singh in ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ is regarded as one of his best works ever. Boman’s theatre experience has helped him tackle a wide array of roles in Bollywood and the actor is getting popular and stronger with every movie.
