Amisha was born on June 9th 1976 in Mumbai, India to Amit and Asha Patel. Her grandfather Rajni Patel was a noted lawyer. Amisha was an ace academician in Cathedral and John Connon School and after completing her high school in India, she headed to graduate in Economics from the Tufts University in Boston, where she won a gold medal.

After pursuing her studies, she came back to India to join the Mumbai Stock Exchange, but that could not hold her interest for long and she decided to join Satyadev Dubey Theater.

Amisha was spotted by Filmmaker Rakesh Roshan at a wedding and he approached her for ‘Kaho Na Pyaar Hai’. Amisha’s parents were hesitant, but they later agreed after seeing their daughter’s determination. Amisha’s debut movie became a superhit which was followed by ‘Gadar’ which became a blockbuster as well thus, conferring her with the title of a Bollywood Star.

The subsequent movies, however; failed to pull the crowds and after a series of flops Amisha had some luck with ‘Humraaz’ and ‘Mangal Pandey’.

Amisha Patel also got romantically involved with Director Vikram Bhatt against the will of her parents. Vikram was also responsible for launching Amisha’s brother Ashmit Patel in Bollywood.

In 2004, Amisha shocked the industry by suing her father for mismanaging her accounts and since then the actress shares a strained relationships with her parents and her brother. Amisha is one of the most educated actresses in Bollywood and is known for reading books on the sets.
